Tips to boost your Windows 8 performance

Undoubtedly the performance which Windows 8 delivers is unmatched if it is compared with its predecessor i.e. Windows 7. However, with the passage of time one must face some lag and downfall in the performance of the system. Sometimes the performance lags to such an extent that a user start feeling to either upgrade his complete system with a new one or replace the hardware like memory or processor. But in both cases, it will unnecessarily cost you a lot.
Actually, it doesn’t matter which operating system is installed on your PC. As sooner or later its performance will start downgrading. Therefore, it is better to follow some tweaks which will again boost the speed of your system.
In this article, we are providing you with some useful tips which will boost the performance of your Windows 8 PC.

1. Remove/Disable Unnecessary services  

You can disable unrequired running services by following the steps given below:
  • Press the keys Win+R simultaneously to open the RUN Window.

Now, enter “msconfig” in the Run Window and Press enter.

  • System Configuration Window gets opened. Locate “Services tab” and click the check box of the “Hide all Microsoft services”.
  • Here, uncheck all the other services that you do not require.

  

2. Manage Your Startup Programs

Fast Startup feature in Windows 8 helps the computer boot up quickly after a complete shutdown. This must always be “Enabled”.

Windows startup “Manage Utility” has now been moved from “msconfig” Window to Task Manager.
  • Open the RUN Window as before and enter “taskmgr” and press enter to open the Task manager.

  • In Task Manager, locate the “More Details” at left down corner and click it to get the start-up.

  • Click the app, you require and disable others.

3. Turn Off Visual Effects
You can turn specific Windows visual effects on or off to improve the performance. To provide 3D effect, you can display shadows under menus. Also, you can also display folders with watermarks, and icon size can be increased.
Below are the steps using which you can make changes in visual effects.

  • Click Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings

In the window that open click on Settings in the Performance option.
      
  • Now In the new window that open select the option “Adjust for best performance”.  






4. Advanced System Optimizer
Advanced System Optimizer is one of the most powerful cleanup and optimization software available. It does a better job to speedup Windows 8 by its many optimizing options. It removes unnecessary junk files that occupies unnecessary space in Windows, updates outdated drivers and protects the system from malware and spyware threats. For a novice user it is one of the best available tool to speed up windows 8.

5. Disable Animations and Increase Performance

Windows 8 has the property of animating whenever you minimize, maximize the window and closing the programs. However, these animations affect the performance of your system. Therefore, you can disable this animation to increase the performance of Windows.
  • Click Start > Open the RUN Command Window to enter “SystemPropertiesAdvanced” and press enter. Click the Setting button in the Performance section.

  • Now Performance Options window gets opened. Here click on Custom and uncheck the options displayed in the screenshot.

6. Turn Off Search Indexing

The user may not understand it but continuing search indexing can reduce the computer performance. Windows index service automatically monitor all your files and indexes all your files for easy searching. This background service increases the CPU load and it may reduce your system performance. You can stop this service to speedup Windows 8, however, search process may get slowed down.

  • Click Start > Enter “services.msc” in Run command prompt and press Enter. Locate for Windows Search, right-click on it and select Properties.

In another window that prompts, change the Startup type to “Disabled”
 7. Close unnecessary Processes which are consuming more memory:

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get a list of the processes in Windows Task Manager. Now, sort by “memory” tab to analyze the process which is consuming the most memory. If that process is unnecessary then end it.
If you follow all the above tips then surely your system will start performing like a new one.
