How To Upgrade any iPhone or iPad to Apple iOS 11

Create a backup

First of all, backup your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch so you have a copy of your important information just in case you need it.

How to back up with iCloud

  1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Go to Settings > [your name], and tap iCloud. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings, then scroll down and tap iCloud.
  3. Tap iCloud Backup. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Backup. Make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on.
  4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process completes.
  5. Make sure that the backup finished: Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Storage > Manage Storage, then select your device. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, then select your device. The backup should appear in the details with the time and backup size.

Automatically back up with iCloud Backup
To let iCloud automatically back up your device each day, here's what you need to do:

  1. Make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup.
  2. Connect your device to a power source.
  3. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
  4. Make sure that your device's screen is locked.
  5. Check that you have enough available space in iCloud for the backup. When you sign into iCloud, you get 5GB of iCloud storage for free. Using an OTA Update method: If you are on a Wi-Fi network and have gotten a message that says an update is available, you can upgrade to iOS 11 right from your device. You don't need a computer or iTunes to perform the update. Make sure you have about 80% of battery or connect to a source or power bank. 


Go to Settings > General > Software Update

iOS will automatically check for an update, then prompt you to download and install iOS 11. Meanwhile, if you are using a mobile network, be sure you have enough data that can perform the update, I recomend using Airtel night plan, you can check how to get it here.

Update your device using iTunes
If you can’t update wirelessly on your iOS device, you can update manually using iTunes on a computer that you trust. If your computer is using Personal Hotspot on the iOS device that you’re updating, connect your computer to a different Wi-Fi or Ethernet network before you update.
  1. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Open iTunes and select your device.
  4. Click Summary, then click Check for Update.
